Brahms String Quartet No.3 in B flat major, Op.67
Beethoven String Quartet in B flat major, Op.130 with Grosse Fugue
Michael Trainor Violin
David Wigram Viola
Jessie Ann Richardson Cello
For their third and final concert, the Piatti String Quartet play Brahms’ Quartet No.3. It is the most relaxed and cheerful of his three quartets, with a first movement in hunting style and a typically Brahmsian intermezzo with a hint of the waltz.
This is paired with one of Beethoven’s greatest string quartets, the massive op.130. This is in six movements, embracing a great range of expression and emotion, and concluding with the ‘Great Fugue’, a substantial and highly dramatic finale. These two string quartets will form a powerful conclusion to the Piatti quartet’s series of concerts.
