Community PartnersDorking Halls is proud to support a number of community theatre and music groups in the area. Mole Valley Arts ForumDorking Halls is a member of the Mole Valley Arts Forum. The Forum aims to be a co-ordinated body to promote the Arts and to assess, encourage and help provide arts needs in the District of Mole Valley. It also looks at existing Arts facilities and offers advice to Mole Valley District Council and other organisations on the provision of new Arts related facilities. The Forum offers a body of opinion generally reflecting the views of local Arts interests on matters concerning the development of the Arts in the district and aims to work with the local schools and youth organisations to encourage interest in the arts. Applause Youth Theatre CoIn a bid to encourage up-and-coming talent among the young people of Mole Valley, Dorking Halls has taken the innovative step of introducing Youth Drama Workshops to its already wide-ranging programme of events. Applause Youth Theatre Company (AYTCO) took up residence at Dorking Halls at the beginning of 2005 and runs regular workshops throughout the year to coach children and young people in drama, dance and musical theatre skills. Theatre workshops for young people aged 8 to 16 are run every Sunday from 12 noon until 2pm Dorking Concertgoershttp://www.dorkingconcertgoers.org.uk/ The Dorking Concertgoers provide high quality classical music in Mole Valley. The artists performing as part of the 2010/2011 season have been announced and include clarinettist Emma Johnson and pianist John Lenehan, both the Philharmonia and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras, the Philharmonia, with conductor Ian Brown and violinist Min-Jin Kym and the RPO, conducted by Grzegorz Nowak, which will include Dvorák's lovely New World Symphony in their concert. The Sacconi String Quartet will visit three times with Beethoven and Bohemia the common threads. Pianist Bernard D'Ascoli is due to perform a solo recital which includes Beethoven's last piano sonata. And to round off the season cellist Stephanie Oade and guitarist Andrew Booth will entertain with a varied programme. Dorking Dramatic & Operatic SocietyThe DDOS (Dorking Dramatic and Operatic Society) is based in the 85-seat Green Room Theatre (situated behind Dorking Halls) where the group performs a wide variety of plays and musicals. Watermill Jazz Clubhttp://www.watermilljazz.co.uk/ The Watermill Jazz was founded in 1994 by Ann Odell and Steve Spurling and now meets on Thursday evenings every month except December. The club meet in the Social Club of Friends Provident Group, Pixham Lane, Dorking. Admission is from 8pm and the music starts at 8.30pm. |
